Went to a birthday party for some little ones this weekend at a Maplewood Park -
my five year old, of course. Found out from the parents they had to pay $20 an hour to reserve space in the park - up from
$10 a year ago. Space in a park that is open to all.
This seems a bit overdone. With the rip-off taxes we pay, making a resident fork over more to have a party in the
park, with no use of electricity, police, etc., is ridiculous. They also had to pay a deposit for a bathroom key. C'mon.
I know we are trying to deal with budget problems by spreading around the pain via furloughs,
closed library days, etc., which I have supported.
but when a resident paying
the insane taxes these parents, and all of us, pay has to hand over more you should be able to reserve a spot in the park
for a party without paying more. It just adds insult to excessive fees.
I have previously complained that a garage sale permit is $10, the highest in the area. Nickel
and diming is what sparks anger. And all as we brace for a revaluation that we know will not be good.
