MAPLEWOOD GREEN COMMITTEES UPDATE

TC Member and Environmental Committee Chair Fred Profeta issued this update on the committee's work

Dear Green Team:

Many of you have not replied to my email of January 14, shown below, including several who attended our full Team meeting of January 11.

We have to move on quickly so that our 7 committees can meet and develop goals and tasks prior to our next full Team meeting on April 29.  Everyone who is not a Maplewood municipal employee must be on a working committee in order to serve on the Green Team.

Those of you who have not yet done so, please sign up for a committee in a reply to me. You may be on more than one committee. If you have not signed up within the next 2 weeks, I will take that as an indication that you are not available to serve on the Green Team at this time.

This does not apply to persons who are on the Green Team as representatives of municipal departments, although you are certainly entitled to be on a committee.

At the end of 2 weeks, I will announce the initial composition of the committees.

The first    meeting(s) will be facilitated by Bob McCoy, Kathy Leventhal, and myself.  If you know of other persons who are interested in sustainability and are willing to work for that goal, you may add them to your committee after discussing that with your fellow committee members.

We are always interested in additional committed supporters.

The descriptions of the committee agendas are in the email below.  In addtion to the 6 listed, we added another: The School District (greening of facilites and curriculum).  Here are the persons who have signed up thus far for the 7 total committees:   1)  Climate and Energy - Marvin Oosterban, Bill Steinbrunn, Dave Gilbert, Kirk Sohr   2)  Parks and Gardens -  Vicki Arlein, Mira Stillman, Kirk Sohr   3)  Communications - Barbara Heisler Williams, Rene Clawson, Kerry Tilden, Maria Tabone, Mira Stillman, Sheila Baker Gujral, Kristy Ranieri   4)  Green Events - Maria Tabone, Kerry Tilden, Tom Kerns, Mary Marzano   5)  Environmental Regulation - John Davenport, Hans Hummel   6)  Business and Commercial - Sheila Baker Gujral, Dave Gilbert, Mary Marzano   7)  The School District - Beth Daugherty, Michael Salvato, Ann Turalski   Looking forward to hearing from you soon.   Fred Profeta

Dear Green Team:   We held our second full meeting on January 11 in town hall.  It was well attended.  Over 30 of you were there.  You can see a write-up of the meeting on patch.com.  Notes were taken, and I hope to have minutes soon.
One of the items of business was an agreement on topics of focus, and the creation of committees for each topic.  Subcommittees should meet (preferably twice) before our next full meeting on April 29.  I will facilitate the formation of committees, and Kathy Leventhal, Bob McCoy, or I will attend initial meetings to assist with the selection of leadership and the identification of tasks.
Most of the members in attendance on January 11 signed up for one or more committees.  Some had to leave before they had an opportunity to do so.  Below is a list of committees with some description of intended subject matter, and the names of persons who have already signed up.
If you have not already done so, please pick one or more committees on which you wish to serve, and email your selections back to me.    1)  Climate and Energy (transportation, fuel consumption, food) - Marvin Oosterban, Bill Steinbrunn, Dave Gilbert, Kirk Sohr   2)  Parks and Community Gardens (river, open space, bio-diversity, athletic fields, Reservation) - Vicki Arlein, Mira Stillman, Kirk Sohr   3)  Communications (website, newspaper column, social networking, advocacy, education) - Barbara Heisler Williams, Rene Clawson, Kerry Tilden, Maria Tabone, Mira Stillman   4)  Green Events (Green Day, Green Drinks) - Maria Tabone, Kerry Tilden, Tom Kerns   5)  Environmental Regulation (green ordinances, enforcement, education about regulation) - John Davenport   6)  Business and Commercial (merchant recycling, green business, green theme marketing) - Dave Gilbert
If any of you who are on this mailing list do not wish to be members of the Green Team, please let me know.  Thanks all.  See you soon.   Fred
